The designs in the Design Hangar are typically sewn in three standard sizes. We refer to them as 4", 6" and 10", which is the approximate width of the designs as sewn on different types of apparel.

Hats

On caps the designs are sewn on the front 2 panels of the cap. The size of the design is limited by the maximum sewable heights of 2 3/4" (70 mm) on the caps. As a result the designs are about 6" (150 mm) wide. Because we can sew designs up to 14" (360 mm) wide on caps, added text can be placed on the 2 side panels of the caps or substituted for the text in the design. To sew well, text must be at least 5/16" high which limits the amount of text which can be added.

Front of Shirts and Jackets

On knit shirts with a placket (buttoned neck opening), or on jackets, there is not enough room between the placket and the wrinkles formed beside the sleeves to sew a 6" wide design. On these shirts and on jackets we limit the width of the design to 3 3/4" (95 mm). Heights is less of a problem so added text is available, placed under the design or by replacing text in the design. This smaller design is also used on shirts with a pocket. This keeps the design about the same size as the pocket.

On Sweatshirts and Tee shirts without pockets we use the 6" design used on caps. Without an opening we can move the design slightly toward the center which allows room for the 6" design. We also offer the 4" design at a slightly lower cost. On these shirts added text is placed below the design.

Back of Shirts and Jackets

Our 10" designs are used on the back of knit shirts, sweatshirts and jackets. These designs often contain added details which are not practical in the smaller size designs. We also use larger text with these designs, typically 3/4" (20mm). The maximum hoop size used for sewing these designs (approx. 15" x 15") allows for additional custom text to be added around the design as shown by our Rag Bag Aero Works logo around the cabin Waco.
